Description
Acer shirasawanum ‘Aureum’, known as ‘Aureum’ maple, is a beautiful, slow-growing maple species that is prized for its unique golden yellow foliage. It typically grows to a height of 2-3 metres, but can reach up to 5 metres in ideal conditions. Its compact, slightly rounded habit and dense foliage make it an excellent choice for smaller gardens and as part of garden compositions.
- Position: Prefers semi-shaded sites, although it also grows in full sun, which can be beneficial in cooler zones.
- Soil: It likes fertile, slightly acidic or neutral soils that are well-drained. It is important that the soil is moist but not waterlogged.
- Care: The plant should be watered regularly, especially during periods of drought. Mulching is also recommended to keep the soil moist and reduce weed growth.
Acer shirasawanum ‘Aureum’ is distinguished by its intense, golden yellow leaves, which change colour as they age: they can turn greenish in the summer season and become bright yellow-orange in the autumn.
In spring, the tree is sprinkled with small yellow flowers that add to its charm. Its interesting habit and variation in colour throughout the year make it a great decoration in the garden.
Maple ‘Aureum’ is great as part of flower bed compositions, in Japanese and oriental gardens, and as a solitary tree. It can also be used in container plantings on terraces or balconies. In addition, its striking leaf colour makes it a great contrasting element in gardens where the green of other plants dominates.
Thanks to the variety of leaf colours, the ‘Aureum’ maple brings a unique atmosphere to the garden that is sure to delight any visitor.
