Description
Magnolia 'Spectrum' has the form of a small tree, it is a fast-growing variety growing to a height of 7m with a columnar and upright habit. It is recommended for larger gardens and landscaped areas.
The large and wide calyxes of the flowers are purple-red on the outside, the inside of the flowers light pink with darker veins, somewhat reminiscent of tulips.
They appear in large numbers, even on young plants, in late IV and early V providing a distinct accent against the developing foliage. The flowers are large and delicately fragrant.
Magnolia 'Spectrum' is a variety similar to 'Galaxy', but with slightly smaller flowers than 'Spectrum'.
An unusual effect is achieved by planting this variety next to the magnolia 'Elizabeth', whose flowers have a bright cream-yellow colour.
The magnolia requires a humusy, permeable, slightly acidic soil and a sheltered, sunny position.
