Description

Prunus laurocerasus ’Antonius’, also known as the cherry laurel, is a cherry laurel variety with a dense, columnar growth habit. This plant reaches a height of 2 to 3 meters and a width of about 1 meter. It is characterized by shiny, dark green leaves that are leathery and durable, making them attractive all year round. In spring, young specimens may develop white flowers, which eventually turn into small, black fruits.

Decorative qualities

  • Leaves: The glossy, deep green leaves give the plant an elegant appearance all year round.
  • Flowers: Spring flowers, although quite inconspicuous, attract pollinators and add extra charm.
  • Fruit: Black fruits are a decorative highlight, especially in winter when they stand out against the winter landscape.

Requirements
Prunus laurocerasus 'Antonius' prefers a partially shaded to shady location. It is a plant that tolerates different soils, but grows best in fertile, permeable and slightly moist soil. The cherry laurel is resistant to pests and diseases, but in very harsh winters it may require protection, especially at a young age.

Usage
The bay laurel ’Antonius’ can be used for hedges because it can be easily shaped into different forms. It is perfect for gardens as a solitary plant and also for planting in groups. This plant can also be used in garden styles such as naturalistic, modern and urban gardens.

Why is it worth having it in your garden?
The 'Antonius' laurel cherry is a great choice for those looking for a plant that combines ornamental value with low maintenance requirements. Its density and leaf color bring harmony and elegance to the garden. In addition, thanks to its high tolerance to soil conditions and sunlight, it will work well in many different locations. Its durability and resistance to adverse weather conditions make it an excellent choice for any gardener, both beginner and experienced.
