Description
Cercis canadensis ‘Merlot’ is an amazing hybrid of Cercis ‘Texas White’ and Cercis ‘Forest Pansy’. ‘Merlot’ offers excellent drought tolerance and thicker. It has glossier foliage that can withstand summer heat and wind. The colour of the leaves gives the variety its intriguing name.
.
The leaves are large with a heart shape and dark purple-red in colour, turning an intense green in mid-summer. On mature plants, robust, bright pink flowers appear directly on the branches (Kaulifloria), which are edible - they have a sweet and sour taste and can be added to salads.
A very decorative and rare in nurseries plant for all kinds of gardens.
