Description
Deciduous azaleas, belonging to the genus Rhododendron in the heath family (Ericaceae), are valued for their beautiful flowers and ornamental leaves. Their cultivation is relatively easy, primarily due to their greater frost resistance compared to Japanese azaleas and rhododendrons. They can be planted individually or in groups, thriving in locations near pond edges or water gardens, where the moist microclimate favored by azaleas prevails. They also tolerate pruning and shaping well. Deciduous azaleas excel both in containers and in flower beds.
In May and June, deciduous azaleas dazzle with a profusion of colorful flowers, while in autumn, their beautifully colored leaves reflect all the hues of the Polish autumn.Deciduous azaleas produced in the Zymon Ornamental Shrubs Nursery belong, among others, to the Knap Hill group, considered one of the most valuable. Shrubs in this group are characterized by their vigor, longevity, abundant flowering, and large flowers gathered in magnificent inflorescences.
Azalea ‘Golden Eagle’ is a moderately vigorous shrub with a spreading and upright habit and seasonal foliage. Its flowers are large, with bright orange centers. They are gathered in numerous spherical and compact inflorescences. Deciduous azaleas require a sunny or semi-shady location, acidic, loamy, and well-drained soil, moderately moist.
This variety received the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2013.
