Description
Kousa dogwood is one of the most decorative trees in the garden. It comes from Japan, China, and Korea. Its unique loose, layered crown makes it an original element of the garden. The flowers of the kousa dogwood are not very visible or particularly decorative. The main ornament of these plants is the bracts, which surround the flowers and come in various colors and sizes.
Cornus kousa ‘Schmetterling’ is a European variety of dogwood, growing quite rapidly and reaching up to 5 meters in height. The bracts of this variety are large and elliptical, creamy in color, and it blooms exceptionally profusely, adorned with white flowers.
It has large ovate leaves that turn yellow-orange-red in autumn.
Kousa dogwoods require fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic, or neutral soil.
The best locations are sunny or semi-shaded areas, sheltered from the wind.
