Liquidambar styraciflua 'Gum Ball' is a rounded, dwarf, compact shrubby version of the parent plant, the American bamboo, with brilliant yellow and purple-red autumn foliage colour. After 10 years it reaches 180 cm in height and width. The bark is green in the first year, then grey, cracking and becoming corky, with characteristic ribbing that deepens with age, providing an interesting, fanciful decorative element to this tree.

It is heat and drought tolerant. It has a shallow root system.
