Description

Rhododendron 'Rasputin' is an evergreen shrub of the species Rhododendron catawbiense, which belongs to the heather family (Ericaceae).
Produced at the Zymon Ornamental Shrubs Nursery, rhododendrons are hybrids of Catawba rhododendron with other varieties. The Catawba rhododendron originates from North America, naturally occurring in the forest understory, characterized by frost resistance and moderate growth rate.
In contrast to azaleas, also belonging to the heather family, rhododendrons do not lose their leaves in winter. Instead, during severe frosts, the leaves curl into tubes.
When planning to cultivate rhododendrons in your garden, it is important to provide the plant with several key conditions that will allow you to enjoy their beauty for a long time:

  1. The rhododendron requires a semi-shaded and sheltered position, protected from the wind.
  2. The soil prepared for the rhododendron should be acidic, rich in organic matter, well-draining, and moderately moist.
  3. Rhododendrons thrive best along the edges of small ponds, water features, or other bodies of water, where there is a moist microclimate.
  4. Rhododendrons definitely thrive better when planted in groups.

Rhododendrons dislike transplanting greatly, so it's crucial to prepare and choose the right location for these coveted plants. If you have any doubts regarding the selection or requirements of the plant, feel free to contact us, and we'll provide expert advice on plant selection.

Rhododendron 'Rasputin' is an evergreen shrub with an upright habit and vivid green elliptical leaves.
It blooms abundantly and for a long period from late May to June. The flowers are bright purple, with a large dark speckled spot on the upper petal and wavy edges, gathered in large semi-spherical terminal clusters.
Rhododendron 'Rasputin' exhibits good frost resistance, but it is recommended to cover especially young plants during winter.
