Description
Rhododendron ‘Red Jack‘ is an evergreen shrub of the species Rhododendron catawbiense, which belongs to the heather family (Ericaceae).
Produced at the Zymon Ornamental Shrubs Nursery, rhododendrons are hybrids of the Catawba Rhododendron variety with other varieties of the mentioned species. The Catawba Rhododendron originates from North America, where it naturally grows in the understory of forests. It is characterized by good frost resistance and a moderate growth rate.
Unlike azaleas, which also belong to the heather family (Ericaceae), rhododendrons do not lose their leaves in winter. During significant frosts, the leaves can curl into tubes.
When planning to cultivate rhododendrons in the garden, it is important to ensure several key conditions that will allow the plants to enjoy their beauty for a long time:
- The rhododendron requires a semi-shaded and sheltered position, protected from the wind.
- The soil prepared for the rhododendron should be acidic, rich in organic matter, well-draining, and moderately moist.
- Rhododendrons thrive best along the edges of small ponds, water features, or other bodies of water, where there is a moist microclimate.
- Rhododendrons definitely thrive better when planted in groups.
Rhododendrons dislike transplanting greatly, so it's crucial to prepare and choose the right location for these coveted plants. If you have any doubts regarding the selection or requirements of the plant, feel free to contact us, and we'll provide expert advice on plant selection.
