Description

Saxifraga cortusifolia is a short-day plant. It grows vegetatively in the spring and summer, forming rosettes of leaves from which numerous flowers emerge as the short days arrive.
These extremely attractive, blooming, multicolored clumps appear in autumn, when there are few flowering plants in gardens and nature is preparing for winter dormancy.
Planted in pots in compositions with other plants, it is an unusual decoration at this time of year.
It is also suitable for planting in flower beds, on patios, and as a potted plant for interior decoration. All of this makes the lichen rockeries - those dancing goblins - of great interest.
Saxifraga cortusifolia 'Trina' blooms profusely from November through December, star-shaped flowers with slenderbicolored petals: pale pink at the base turning an intense raspberry-pink, surrounding a yellow center from which white stamens with dark tips emerge, leaves are large, dark green with a slight burgundy edging.
