Description
Rhododendron 'Tortoiseshell Orange' is an evergreen shrub of the species Rhododendron catawbiense, which belongs to the heather family (Ericaceae).
Produced at the Zymon Ornamental Shrubs Nursery, Catawba Rhododendrons are hybrids. Botanically, the Catawba Rhododendron originates from North America, where it grows in the understory of forests and is characterized by good frost resistance.
In contrast to azaleas, also belonging to the heather family, rhododendrons do not lose their leaves in winter. Instead, during extreme frosts, the leaves can curl into tubes.
When planning to cultivate rhododendrons in the garden, it is important to ensure several key conditions that will allow you to enjoy their beauty for a long time:
- The rhododendron requires a semi-shaded and sheltered position, protected from the wind.
- The soil prepared for the rhododendron should be acidic, rich in organic matter, well-draining, and moderately moist.
- Różaneczniki najlepiej rosną nad brzegami niewielkich stawów, oczek wodnych lub innych zbiorników, gdzie występuje mikroklimat a gleba jest stale wilgotna.
- Rhododendrons definitely thrive better when planted in groups.
Rhododendrons tolerate transplanting very poorly, so it is essential to properly prepare and choose a location for the plant.
