Description
Magnolia x soulangeana is a hybrid of the cultivars Magnolia liliflora and Magnolia denudata, bred in 1820-26 by the botanist S. Soulange-Bodin in Fromont, France.
Magnolia x soulangeana 'Yellow Lantern grows strongly, with upright, stiff stems and a very regular crown.
Magnolia x soulangeana 'Yellow Lantern' grows vigorously, stems erect and rigid, crown very regular reaching up to 5 m after 10 years. Flowers appear before the leaves develop in late April. They take the form of large 10-15 cm yellow shells.
'Yellow Lantern' is one of the prettiest yellow magnolias. Recommended for all types of gardens.
The magnolia requires a humus, permeable, slightly acidic substrate and a sheltered, sunny position.
