Description
Hamamelis intermedia (Intermediate Witch Hazel) is a hybrid of Japanese Witch Hazel H. japonica and Chinese Witch Hazel H. mollis. Witch hazels bloom when most plants in the garden are still in their winter slumber. Therefore, it's advisable to plant them in locations that fully allow for the appreciation of their striking flowering and large, dark green leaves. Shrubs can be planted individually or in groups.
Hamamelis intermedia ‘Pallida‘, despite being known and valued for decades, was selected around 1932 and remains one of the most beautiful varieties of witch hazel. ‘Pallida‘ is a large deciduous shrub with a spreading crown and broad, oval leaves that turn yellow in autumn. Its flowers are pale yellow, with relatively wide petals and a light fragrance, appearing in late winter.
Recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society Award in 1996 for the best garden plant.
