Description

Magnolia x soulangeana is a hybrid of the cultivars Magnolia liliflora and Magnolia denudata, bred in 1820-26 by the botanist S. Soulange-Bodin in Fromont, France.
Magnolia x soulangeana 'Sundew' is a fast-growing variety taking the form of an oval, upright shrub or small tree, reaching about 5 m. The large 12 cm and fragrant flowers appear before the leaves have developed. They take the form of large light pink calyxes purple at the base. The interior of the flowers white.
'Sundew' tolerates frost quite well. Recommended for all types of gardens, an extremely decorative variety.
