Cornus alba - is a large, spreading shrub that grows up to 3 m high and a similar width. The shoots are erect, the lower branches are decaying on the ground. Young shoots are covered with characteristic red bark. Small, cream flowers are gathered in flat inflorescences, during flowering in May attract numerous pollinating insects. It is one of the basic species among deciduous shrubs used in urban greenery. It is offered in numerous varieties with colorful leaves. It tolerates unfavorable growing conditions, growing well in sunny places and in the shade. It has no special requirements, but prefers moist soils. It is suitable for large plantings gardens and parks. Annual pruning in early spring promotes formation of numerous young shoots covered with decorative red bark, beautifully displayed in the leafless period. The species is fully resistant to frost.
