The Kniphofia grows to a height of 60 to 80 cm. Its characteristic inflorescences consist of tubular flowers that are greenish at first and then turn yellow, orange or bright red during flowering. The flowers are arranged in spike-like panicles on long stalks, giving the plant a striking appearance. The leaves are long, narrow and lanceolate, forming a rosette at the base.
