Saxifraga cortusifolia is a short-day plant. It grows vegetatively in spring and summer, forming rosettes of leaves from which numerous flowers emerge as the short days arrive. These extremely attractive, blooming, multicolored clumps appear in autumn, when there are few flowering plants in gardens and nature prepares for winter dormancy. Planted in pots in compositions with other plants, it is an unusual decoration at this time of year. It is also suitable for planting in flower beds, on patios, and as a potted plant for interior decoration. All of this makes lichen scalpels - those dancing goblins - of great interest.
