Description
Japanese azaleas are dwarf, slow-growing shrubs, maintaining their evergreen ornamental form for most of the year. They reach full growth usually after 10 years. Thanks to their partial loss of leaves in winter, they cope better with lower temperatures than other rhododendron varieties. Their compact structure and predominant compact form among many varieties make Japanese azaleas perfect when planted in containers on terraces and balconies. They also blend well in heathlands, rockeries, and gardens, especially around ponds or pools, adding a romantic atmosphere. Azaleas bloom profusely, covering themselves with colorful flowers, and when planted in groups, they create charming single-colored or multicolored carpets. The flowers last for about 3 weeks, depending on prevailing weather conditions.
Azalea japonica ‘Konigstein‘ is a shrub with a compact, upright habit and evergreen leaves. The flowers are quite large, serrated, and very numerous. They display an interesting purple-fuchsia color with a noticeable spot on the petals. Azaleas require sunny or semi-shaded locations, acidic, humus-rich, and permeable soil.
