Description

Rhododendron japonicum syn. Azalea japonica belong to the genus Rhododendron and the family of heathers Ericaceae. Japanese azaleas are dwarf, slow-growing evergreen shrubs, reaching their maximum growth on average after 10 years. Thanks to the partial loss of leaves in winter, they tolerate lower temperatures better than other Rhododendron species. Their compact structure and predominant compact form among many varieties make Japanese azaleas perfect for planting in containers on terraces and balconies. They also complement gardens well when planted near ponds or pools, enhancing the romantic atmosphere of the garden. Azaleas bloom profusely, covering the entire plant with flowers. Planted in groups, they create beautiful single or multicolored carpets. The flowers last for about 3 weeks. Azalea japonica ‘Moederkensdag‘ is a dwarf evergreen shrub with slow growth. It blooms profusely, with flowers in a pink-carmine color. 'Moederkensdag' has bright green shiny leaves. The shrub has a semi-globular habit. The flowers are medium, semi-double, in a carmine-red color. Azaleas require sunny or semi-shaded locations, acidic, humus-rich, and well-draining soil.
