Rhododendron japonicum syn. Azalea japonica belong to the genus Rhododendron and the family of heathers Ericaceae. Japanese azaleas are dwarf, slow-growing evergreen shrubs, reaching their maximum growth on average after 10 years. Thanks to the partial loss of leaves in winter, they tolerate lower temperatures better than other Rhododendron species.
