Botanically, Hamamelis intermedia (intermediate witch hazel) is a hybrid of Japanese witch hazel H. japonica and Chinese witch hazel H. mollis. It's worth mentioning that witch hazels bloom when most plants in the garden are still dormant. Therefore, it's advisable to plant them in locations that allow us to fully appreciate their striking blossoms and large, dark green leaves. Trees can be planted individually or in groups.
Hamamelis intermedia 'Ruby Glow' is a moderately vigorous, upright shrub with rounded green leaves up to 16 cm long and 12 cm wide, which turn yellow, red, and orange in autumn. In February, fragrant, red flowers up to 2 cm long appear, blooming until March.
