Description
Magnolia 'Elizabeth' is a fast-growing tree with a loose, pyramidal habit growing to 5-7m tall. A very attractive variety, one of the most popular yellow magnolias. Selected in 1956 at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in Brooklyn, New York. Variety named in 1978 in honour of the garden's director Elizabeth Scholz.
Magnolia 'Elizabeth' forms yellow buds that appear before the leaves develop. The flowers are fragrant and showy made up of 8-9 petals ( tepals ). The colour of the flowers cream yellow to lemon in hot weather they fade slightly turning ivory in colour.
Magnolia requires a humus, permeable, slightly acidic substrate and a sheltered, sunny position.
