Description
Magnolia grandiflora 'Alta'® has the form of a small tree with an erect and compact habit. It is derived from a seedling of the Hasse cultivar, selected in 1993 at Tree Introduction Nursery, Inc., Georgia, USA by T. J. Strickland.
Magnolia grandiflora (Magnolia grandiflora) 'Alta' is an evergreen magnolia with very decorative and glossy foliage resembling that of a ficus. 'Alta' blooms in late spring and summer. It blooms for a long time with huge up to 30 cm in diameter, white-cream and intensely fragrant flowers. The flowers, made up of several broad petals ( tepals ), open strongly during flowering.
Prefers a sheltered and sunny position with a permeable slightly acidic substrate. Overwinters well in our climate, provided the root system is covered with a thick layer of bark for the winter.
