Description

Magnolia 'Betty' is a compact shrub with a rounded crown and up to 3 m tall. The cultivar was selected in 1965 at the U. S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. and belongs to the group named 'eight little girls'.
Magnolia 'Betty' is with one of the more attractive magnolia varieties. A very desirable variety for gardens and landscaped areas, it is worth displaying against other plantings. Flowering before leafing out in May, wide-open flowers up to 30 cm in diameter develop from brown buds! and intense citrus fragrance.
Flowers built up to 18 petals, which are dark pink on the outside with a lighter interior. Leaves ovate, intense green until autumn, then yellow-brown-red.
Magnolia 'Betty' requires a humus, permeable, slightly acidic substrate and a shady, sunny position.
