Magnolia 'Iolanthe' takes the form of a small tree, has a distinct guide and a nice wide columnar habit, growing to about 7m tall. Variety bred in New Zealand by M. and J. Taranaki in 1970.
The magnolia is characterised by strong growth and large leaves, reaching 25 cm in diameter.
Exceptionally decorative, large and dark pink buds appear in winter, magnolia 'Iolanthe' is a variety that flowers early in late April.
Magnolia 'Iolanthe' is a variety with extremely showy and fragrant light pink flowers with a lighter centre, they open wide and look exceptionally beautiful and striking. The flowers reach up to 28 cm in diameter when fully open. The flowers take on a bowl shape due to the large oval petals ( tepals ).
Magnolia requires a humus, permeable, slightly acidic substrate and a sheltered, sunny position.
