Azalea ‘St. Lem’ Azalea ‘St. Lem’ is a showy, deciduous garden azalea variety bred in Poland, belonging to the group of large-flowered azaleas (Rhododendron occidentale x mollis). Its name comes from the initials and surname of the renowned science fiction writer – Stanisław Lem – and serves as a tribute to Polish cultural heritage.
🌸 Flower colour:
- Intensely yellow flowers with a creamy-white overlay, sometimes with a delicate orange streak at the base of the petals.
- The color is richly saturated, brightening flower beds and drawing attention from afar.
🌼 Flower structure:
- Large, trumpet-shaped flowers with slightly wavy petals, gathered in rounded inflorescences of a dozen or more blooms.
- Blooms profusely in May, before the leaves are fully developed.
- The flowers are lightly fragrant, long-lasting, and resistant to short periods of cold.
🌿 Plant habit:
- Compact shrub with a dense, dome-shaped growth habit, reaching 1.2–1.5 m in height and width.
- Elliptical, dark green leaves in summer that turn orange-red in autumn.
