Description
Kousa dogwood is one of the most decorative trees in the garden. It comes from Japan, China, and Korea. Its unique loose, layered crown makes it an original element of the garden. The flowers of the kousa dogwood are not very visible or particularly decorative. The main ornament of these plants is the bracts, which surround the flowers and come in various colors and sizes.
Cornus x rutgersensis ‘Celestial Shadow’ is a hybrid that resulted from a mutation of the variety Cornus rutgersensis x ‘Celestial Shadow’.
It is highly resistant to diseases. It blooms in spring with large white flowers (bracts) that appear in May and June.
Throughout the season, the plant is adorned with extremely decorative green leaves with a golden-yellow edge. As temperatures drop toward the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, the leaves turn a pink-purple color.
The striking flowers of this attractive dogwood attract numerous pollinators in spring, and by summer and autumn, these flowers turn into red fruits that are appealing to birds and small mammals.
This exceptionally beautiful tree will undoubtedly be a highly attractive feature in any garden.
Cornus x rutgersensis ‘Celestial Shadow‘ typically reaches a height of about 4-5 meters and a similar width. It prefers partial shade and average, well-drained soil, though it also tolerates full sun and slightly more moist soils.
