Magnolia x soulangeana is a hybrid of varieties Magnolia liliflora i Magnolia denudata, Bred in 1820-26 by botanist S. Soulange-Bodin in Fromont, France.
Magnolia x soulangeana 'Burgundy’ to duży krzew lub niewielkie drzewo wysokości do 5 m. ’Burgundy’ swoją nazwę zawdzięcza głębokiemu ciemnemu purpurowemu kolorowi kwiatów podobnemu do koloru burgundzkiego wina. Płatki (tepale) są szerokie nachodzące na siebie w kolorze czerwono-purpurowym, kwiaty pozostają przez cały okres kwitnienia częściowo zamknięte. Magnolie tej odmiany kwitną obficie na przełomie kwietnia i maja.
Variety ’Burgundy’ przeznaczona do ogrodów i terenów zieleni, cechuje się dość dużą odpornością na mróz.
