Magnolia x soulangeana is a hybrid of varieties Magnolia liliflora i Magnolia denudata, Bred in 1820-26 by botanist S. Soulange-Bodin in Fromont, France.
Magnolia x soulangeana 'Rustica Rubra’ to niewielkie drzewo lub krzew o luźnym pokroju i szybkim tempie wzrostu osiąga do 5 m po kilkunastu latach. Na przełomie kwietnia i maja na gałązkach, które jeszcze nie wykształciły liści, pojawiają się kwiaty są wyjątkowo dekoracyjne, delikatnie pachnące, osiągają średnicę od 10 do 12 cm i składają się z mięsistych płatków, muszelkowatego kształtu. Na zewnątrz są one czerwono-purpurowym, wewnątrz białawe z delikatnym różowym zabarwieniem.
’Rustica Rubra’ jest to stara odmiana wyhodowana w Holandii, nadal jednak pozostaje bardzo atrakcyjna i popularna jest nieco podobna do ’Lennei’.
Magnolia requires a humus, permeable, slightly acidic soil and a shady, sunny position.
